IOGP wins Digital Engineering Award for industry-wide equipment specifications data hub

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) has won the Digital Engineering Project/Program of the Year Challenger award at the 2026 Digital Engineering Awards for its Data Hub for IOGP Parts & Equipment Specifications (HIPE) project. It was nominated by IOGP Member, Chevron.

The Digital Engineering Awards recognises initiatives that demonstrate outstanding innovation and in digital engineering. IOGP’s project was selected from a strong field of finalists across multiple industries across the globe, highlighting the growing influence of collaborative digital transformation in the energy sector.

“The recognition from the Digital Engineering Awards highlights the value of industry collaboration in solving shared challenges and demonstrates how common digital platforms can unlock efficiency across complex global supply chains,” said Graham Henley, CEO, IOGP.

Commenting on the win: Rob Kelly, Chair of the DTC and JIS-03 HIPE Steering Committee said:

“When we created the IOGP Digital Transformation Committee 3 years ago, I said – partly in jest – that our 5-year vision should be to have our own statue outside the IOGP office recognizing the transformational impact of the Committee on our Industry.  Although not a statue, this award is a fantastic recognition of all the hard work put in by so many members of the Committee over the past 3 years and, I’m sure, the first of many more to come! Congratulations everyone!”

Keith Johnston,  Vice- Chair of the DTC and a member of JIS-03 HIPE Steering Committee said:

“The HIPE collaboration has paved the way for our digital bridge in the energy sector. By adopting pioneering approaches and agile delivery, we accomplished something never before seen in our industry — a data product built upon the foundational investments in JIP33. This award stands as a milestone, one that will inspire us as we strive to create a lasting, positive digital impact for energy.”

Sasha Schmick, member of the DTC and Vice-Chair of JIS-03 HIPE Steering Committee said:

Working within the Digital Transformation Committee on HIPE has demonstrated our collective ability to shift how the industry conducts base business, such as equipment specification. It also enables IOGP members to get further value from their investment in JIP33 by digitizing those specifications and having an immutable record for queries. I firmly believe HIPE is the example and now the catalyst for industry level change.”

The energy sector depends on a huge and complex supply chain, with thousands of different parts and equipment sourced from around the world. For a long time, companies have managed these using fragmented document systems and manual processes, which has led to complexity, rework, unnecessary effort, and missed opportunities to standardise.

To address this challenge, IOGP’s Digital Transformation Committee launched the HIPE Joint Industry Sprint (JIS) to deliver a digital data platform designed to digitally enable the ambitions of Joint Industry Programme 33 (JIP33) Standardizing Procurement Specifications  and make it easier for everyone in the sector to define, share, and check equipment requirements using common digital data foundations.

Delivering real value through digital collaboration.

The first Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of HIPE focuses on low voltage motors data, offering a digital workflow for specifying JIP33 data to complete a technical query with equipment manufacturers. Early user testing has shown that the system’s structured, role-based workflows and intuitive design are easy to use and add real value.

Over time, HIPE ambition is to enable digital workflows and automation, and support faster and more standard technical enquiry and improved traceability for data-driven asset management.

JIS-03 HIPE is part of IOGP’s Digital Transformation programme, which aims to create shared digital foundations that will allow the industry to operate more efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
