The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) is the global voice of the industry, pioneering excellence in safe, efficient, and sustainable energy– an enabling partner for a low carbon future. It speaks on behalf of its members – international oil companies – who operate around the globe and supply over 40% of the world’s oil and gas demand. We are one industry, with many stories to tell, bringing together many points of view.

We are looking for an Editor to join IOGP’s Communications team. Successful candidates will have several years’ experience as a writer or editor in a collaborative environment. As the world navigates increasingly complex challenges, including energy security and the energy transition, set against the backdrop of the rising cost of living, the oil and gas industry is front of mind for many. It’s a crucial time to ensure IOGP’s messages and position as the ‘voice of the industry’ are being heard clearly both within and beyond the industry. IOGP’s communications provide a platform to act and respond to the changing environment while supporting our members, the industry, and our goals. We are a small team that packs a big punch and aims to present the industry’s position as a critical enabler in getting the world to net zero!

About the role:

IOGP’s publications include guidance documents, technical specifications, research papers, white papers, infographics, and other material aimed at improving performance in the upstream oil and gas industry. Your primary focus will be to ensure that all IOGP published material is of a high standard by applying the house style guide, maintaining the editorial guidelines, and upholding our brand identity.

You will collaborate with all stakeholders/subject matter experts on a project to ensure our output is technically robust and to the highest standards of professional written English. You’ll also maintain an understanding of the target audience for all publications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Edit material according to a style guide and ensure the content complies with our editorial guidance, rewriting copy as needed
  • Advise authors on how to develop their proposals into an acceptable final product
  • Work with stakeholders to discuss project expectations
  • Help to maintain the internal/external digital libraries
  • Maintain communication with project stakeholders to advise them of timelines for different stages of document development
  • Ensure internal processes for document development are followed

About you:

  • You will have a bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related subjects
  • You will have at least 3 years’ copywriting and editorial experience
  • You will have confidence and experience of editing published material according to a style guide. Even better if you have experience with multiple style guides.
  • You will have the ability to convey detailed technical information effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience of working in the Oil and Gas or related industries will be beneficial but not a pre-requisite.
