Security

Managing security risks is an essential business activity within the global upstream oil and gas industry. The range of security threats posed varies in scope and intensity and companies should ensure they have comprehensive security awareness and knowledge. Without consistent security risk management strategies, companies may be exposed to an increasing level of security instability and unpredictability.

  • IOGP Report 308R – Response to demonstrations at company premises or events
  • IOGP Report 309R – Response to demonstrations at offshore facilities
  • IOGP Report 474R – Managing the risk of armed attack to offshore facilities and operations
  • IOGP Report 497R – Guidance for the initial management of security incidents in remote oil and gas facilities

In 2025, the Security Committee has focused on strengthening security across the global upstream oil and gas industry. Key priorities have included monitoring global threats, especially those linked to geopolitical tensions and climate-related protests, and sharing lessons learned from incidents.

The Committee also addressed emerging security risks tied to renewable energy, growing concern of subsea sabotage, and updated four IOGP Security publications.
