Security Committee

The Security Committee promotes a safe and secure operating environment by mitigating security threats to people, assets, information, operations, and reputation. This is achieved by implementing robust threat and risk assessment processes and minimizing the impact from security-related incidents, should they occur.

2022 highlights

  • Report 540R – Using Metrics in a Security Environment
  • Report 555R – Conducting security risk assessments (SRA) in dynamic threat environments
  • Report 651R – Unmanned Aircraft Systems: threats and response
  • Info Sheet – Standards, guidelines, and recommended practices for managing security risks
  • Info Sheet – Safety Considerations for LGBTQI+ Travellers

2023 work plan

The security risks presented by the Ukraine/Russia crisis and COVID-19 are expected to pose new threats in 2023. The Committee will discuss current and emerging threats, how they might affect our Members and the communities they serve, and how to respond and mitigate these threats.

As more and more Members move into the renewable energy space, new security challenges will be created. The Committee is and will continue to examine security threats linked to new energies and other energy transition projects.

There is significant interest in the links between physical security and cybersecurity – also referred to as hybrid or convergence security. The Committee is evaluating effective approaches for countering these risks and threats.

Data

IOGP’s Security Committee is the foremost security point of reference for the global upstream industry. At each meeting, the Committee shares lessons learned from security incidents within the industry. These meetings allow the security professionals of our Member Companies to identify common trends and enable the Security Committee to allocate resources to specific issues.

In 2022, the Committee hosted a series of calls dedicated to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and how its effects (direct and indirect) might create security challenges for the energy industry.
