Identifying and spreading good environmental practice wherever the upstream industry operates.

Environment Committee

Objectives

The objectives of the committee are to co-ordinate and represent the Exploration and Production (E&P) industry on environmental issues of international significance.

In particular, these include:

  • To monitor and provide input on developments of relevance to the industry to international bodies/authorities/regulators
  • To develop and advocate industry positions
  • to identify strategic and emerging issues; and
  • to address common concerns and share and develop knowledge of the environmental impact of the E&P industry, and improve operational practices based on that knowledge

Work areas

Committee activities include:

  • Ensuring continued access to new and known hydrocarbon sources
  • Environmental management and reporting
  • Gaseous emissions management
  • Monitoring regulatory developments and developing advocacy positions

In terms of regulatory advocacy, the Committee works with a variety of organisations including OSPAR, Barcelona, Abidjan, Cartagena Conventions, International Maritime Organisation (IMO)
