Masterclass on modern statistical approaches to extreme value analysis in metocean engineering
The Masterclass is open to all IOGP Members and participants are required to have some background understanding of the extreme value analysis topic.
Masterclass: Tuesday, 22 Sept 2026
This Masterclass aims to provide Metocean practitioners, engineers, analysts and decision-makers with a practical understanding of contemporary statistical methods for extreme value analysis (EVA) and their application in offshore and marine engineering.
The Masterclass will focus on the estimation of rare environmental conditions used in design, operations and
risk assessments, highlighting recent developments in statistical modelling, uncertainty quantification and multivariate analysis. Particular emphasis will be placed on the practical application of methods, interpretation of results, model diagnostics and engineering judgement.

A virtual meeting for the Masterclass on Modern Statistical Approaches to Extreme Value Analysis will take place on Friday , 25th Sept 2026 from 08:00-10:00 am UK time. Phil Jonathan will lead the session, summarizing the key points from the 5-hour workshop held on September 22, 2026. This informative session is anticipated to last between 30 to 60 minutes, offering participants insights into the latest methodologies in the field, followed by an hour dedicated to answering questions from attendees.

Additionally, the workshop on September 22 will be recorded and made available on the IOGP website for those who wish to review it later.
