IOGP Geomatics Webinar: Improving Safe and Efficient Vessel Downline Operations Around In-Water Assets — Survey and Positioning Guidelines

March 24 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm GMT

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Vessel downline operations, such as ROV and dive bell tethers or crane wires, near in-water assets remain a high-risk activity across offshore projects — with potential for collisions, asset damage, and serious safety consequences if not properly planned and monitored

To support safer operations, the IOGP Geomatics Committee is hosting a webinar briefing on its newly released guideline: ‘Survey and online positioning system recommendations for vessel downline operations within in-water assets

This new guideline sets out recommended practices to reduce the risk of downline collision or entanglement with assets such as mooring lines and risers, helping to protect people, equipment, and primary containment.

The session will cover:

✅ Operational procedures for survey and positioning

✅ Charting and field database requirements

✅ Online positioning systems and display recommendations

✅ Use of live position data for monitoring adjacent mobile assets with in-water assets

✅ An overview of the new Downline Operations Survey Checklist

Speakers:
Walter Jardine, Vice Chair, IOGP Geomatics Committee – 35+ years’ experience across global survey, positioning, and geospatial operations, including senior roles at bp.
Matthew Paloian, Shell – Co-Chair, IOGP Surveying and Positioning Subcommittee, with 17+ years supporting offshore geomatics operations across the Americas.

Who should attend?
All those who operate or rely on survey systems on vessels using downline systems, including:
online surveyors, survey party chiefs, vessel crews, OICs, ROV and dive superintendents, marine bridge teams, installation and subsea engineers, and onshore personnel supporting offshore operations.
