Geomatics 15th Industry Day

As the energy sector evolves, it faces an increasingly complex landscape – balancing growing energy demand, decarbonization targets, and environmental responsibility, while embracing digitalization, automation, and AI. All this in an evolving environment to improve operational efficiency and decision making across the energy lifecycle.

Safety and security across the energy industry depend on trusted location intelligence: knowing where people, assets, infrastructure, hazards, and operations are when decisions matter most.

Geomatics transforms location data into trusted geospatial information. Combining surveying, positioning, geodesy, remote sensing, mapping, and geospatial data management, it provides the foundation for understanding where people, assets, infrastructure, hazards, and operations are in relation to one another. Through the integration of digital technologies, real-time data, automation, advanced analytics, connected geospatial systems, and AI, geomatics continues to evolve, delivering trusted positioning and location intelligence that enhance situational awareness, strengthen operational resilience, and support informed decision-making. From asset protection and navigation safety to emergency preparedness and response, geomatics plays a critical role in enabling safe, secure, and efficient operations across the energy industry.

The IOGP Geomatics Committee supports the safe and secure use of geospatial information through industry recommended practices, position data exchange formats, technical specifications, geospatial data models, and the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset. Through collaboration across the energy industry, the Committee promotes accurate positioning, trusted geospatial information, and data interoperability, in turn helping to reduce operational risk and supporting safer, more resilient operations.

The IOGP Geomatics Industry Day provides a great opportunity to exchange insights, share experiences, and strengthen collaboration across the energy sector. This year’s event will feature presentations exploring the role that geomatics plays in safety and security.
