Register AgendaAbout this Event
The Southern Caribbean current touches a broad spectrum of economic, socio-cultural, and ecological interests in Suriname and beyond. In the Suriname-Guyana Basin, multiple national governments, NGOs and industry associations are focusing on developing regional, rather than solely national, capacity for safe and environmentally sound offshore operations.
Cross-Border Coordination in Spill Prevention and Response in Suriname-Guyana Basin is an opportunity for key stakeholders to mutually examine critical areas of enhancing capacity for spill prevention and response to loss of subsea source control. The conference has three key objectives. The first is to promote an enhanced awareness of the responsible actions that Industry takes to prevent a major incident; the second is to provide an overview of what subsea response looks like, its dependency on coordinated processes and strategies and highlight the resources available to industry; and the third is to develop practical recommendations to Governments to create a regional framework for consistent protocols and response methodology.
This conference aligns with the announced goals of the two new administrations in Suriname and Guyana. The Presidents of both governments have pledged to work more closely with one another, particularly in light of recent hydrocarbon successes. This conference is a key tool to bolster that objective.
