Description

IOGP has developed this guidance to support broader understanding, acceptance, and consistent application of produced water risk based assessment techniques.

Produced water (PW) is the associated water produced with oil and gas from a reservoir. Following treatment, the water may be reinjected into the reservoir or discharged, subject to the quality of the water and regulations. The concept of Risk Based Assessment (RBA) is being adopted to assess PW discharges. RBA goes beyond end of pipe standards, providing a framework whereby the overall acceptability of the discharge can be assessed, and potential options identified to reduce risk and uncertainty. This document presents industry good practice and aims to broaden the understanding and acceptance of RBA techniques.
