Description

This good practice guide has been developed to help operators navigate the steps and good practices involved in planning for, and implementing, a monitoring and sampling (M&S) programme. The guidance is presented in phases related to the complexity of the M&S activities required for a specific spill situation, and/or the point at which these activities are occurring within the spill response process. The guide describes a comprehensive approach to M&S, and presents the key steps that should be taken in preparing for, and implementing, an M&S programme. It focuses on a range of pre-spill requirements including, in particular, the need to establish pre-spill data for reference purposes, as well as on the steps that need to be taken once a spill occurs.
