Description

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) has published new guidance to help its Members and the industry to eliminate routine flaring and reduce methane emissions.

A result from the strong collaboration among the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), Methane Guiding Principles (MGP), the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), this guidance aims to help OGDC signatories and oil and gas companies deliver on their ambitions to reduce flaring and methane emissions.

Key Features of the Publication:

  • The framework has three stages: Foundation, Reduction, and Continuous Improvement. They outline the best approaches to reduce flaring and methane emissions and suggest practical steps for companies.
  • The framework includes best practice from technical experts, including IOGP, MGP, OGCI, EDF, and other associations, and links to resources from leaders in the field.
  • Key links to important resources.

This publication consolidates collective industry knowledge and provides the tools to implement and accelerate climate actions to virtually eliminate methane emissions and routine flaring by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions from oil and gas operations by 2050.
