This is a summary of the main document which is for the use of IOGP Members only.

The technology brief is the main result of the IOGP Task Force on New Technologies in Offshore Environment Monitoring.

Offshore oil and gas companies regularly carry out monitoring with the aim of increasing their understanding and predictive capability of the offshore environment as well as meeting regulatory requirements. Reducing industries’ exposure to health, safety and environmental risks translates into cost-savings and compliance.

New technologies have been developed that have the potential to change how offshore monitoring is conducted. This report provides an analysis of the potential of and barriers to these new technologies in offshore monitoring in the oil and gas sector:

  • the state of play of new technologies
  • the industry challenges, obstacles and opportunities ahead, over a five-year time frame.

The report is intended for:

  • oil and gas professionals who want to learn more about the imminent changes in offshore monitoring practice, and how the industry can maximize their uptake and value
  • service providers who offer monitoring support to the industry.
