Shift from in-person to virtual training during pandemic resulted in low interaction between students and instructors
The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a rapid shift from in-person well control instruction to online courses. Using test results, simulator experiences, and a survey of over 500 students and instructors, IOGP studied the impact of this virtual learning on well control competency and found that the primary drawback of the rapid shift from in-person to virtual training during the pandemic was low interaction between students and instructors.
The study identified opportunities for blending in-person and virtual training in well control courses, and recommended adoption of a hybrid learning program to maintain well control competency across the industry.
