IOGP’s newly launched Joint Industry Sprint (JIS02) to develop a harmonized industry specification for Additive Manufacturing (AM) of components in the oil and gas sector held its first workshop on 23rd to 25th July 2024 to establish the scope and planned deliverables.
The initiative aims to develop a harmonized industry specification for Additive Manufacturing of components. AM, or 3D printing, is the computerized construction of three-dimensional objects by successively depositing, joining, or solidifying materials, typically layer by layer, based on a digital design.
The oil and gas industry increasingly relies on AM to address spare parts shortages, supply chain vulnerabilities, and sustainability challenges. Recent global disruptions have exposed the vulnerabilities of traditional, centralized supply chains. Digital inventory, enabled by AM, offers a more resilient, cost-effective, and sustainable approach. By allowing for on-demand production and design flexibility, AM can reduce waste and optimize inventory management.
This JIS will establish a document to standardize the framework for digital inventory, addressing industry standard gaps and defining digital spare parts to facilitate ecosystem collaboration and accelerated digital inventory adoption.
The 13 participating companies are BakerHughes, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Woodside, Equinor, TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, Petrobras, Saudi Aramco, Petronas, Shell, ADNOC and Eni.
