Stephen Jones becomes new Security Chair

At their April meeting, members of IOGP’s Security Committee, elected Stephen Jones, Shell, as their new Chair.  He succeeded Jean-Louis Kibort, Total, who had led the Committee for five years.

Stephen is Strategy and Assurance Manager and Deputy Vice President for Security, based at Shell’s headquarters in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Prior to joining Shell, Stephen served in the British Army.  He enjoyed a long career in UK Special Forces, where he spent 22 of his 27 years’ service, deployed worldwide.

Committee Vice Chair, Paul Reither, welcomed Stephen on board and thanked Jean-Louis for his past chairmanship. In recognition of his dedication to the Committee, Simon Durkin, Security Committee Sponsor, and Michael Engell-Jensen, IOGP Executive Director, presented Jean-Louis with a commemorative obelisk.

The Security Committee meeting, hosted by Shell in The Hague, took place on 29th and 30th April. Twenty-seven participants, from twenty-three member companies, discussed the effects of the recent oil price drop on security operations and Gulf of Guinea security.  The meeting also included
a workshop on ‘Intelligence analysis’ which focused on the emerging terrorist threat.
