IOGP Pulse – January 2021

Fuzzy Bitar, Chairman, IOGP

Welcome to Pulse

Welcome to the first Pulse of 2021 – a year we all hope will be brighter than the one we have just come through.

My heartfelt thanks for everything you are doing. Amid incredibly difficult conditions and disruptions, you continue to deliver energy that helps societies right around the world keep moving.

Of course, the pandemic still casts a dark shadow over the global economy – with serious ramifications for our industry. But while nobody knows when life will return to normal, we can at least hope that this year will see humanity begin to bring COVID-19 under control. We have a greater understanding of the virus and ways to slow the spread. Vaccines are being developed, approved, and rolled out.  The route out of a crisis is never smooth – there will be bumps along the way – but I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So while our industry faces continued challenges, there is reason for optimism – and I for one am upbeat about what 2021 has in store for us. While 2020 has been seen as a year to forget we must remember what COVID has taught us about the fragility of life and the world we live in.  So, as we look to the future, let’s seize the opportunities which lie ahead and realise the transformational potential that oil and gas plays in society.

On behalf of everyone at IOGP, thank you again for your hard work – and let me wish you a safe and productive start to 2021.
