International Association of Oil & Gas Producers presents new strategy and appoints Energy Transition Director

IOGP’s new strategy will focus on accelerating the oil and gas industry’s role in the Energy Transition, advocacy and talent recruitment and retention.

London, 27 August 2021. Building on hundreds of survey responses, interviews and consultations over eight months, the Association’s new strategy sets out a roadmap that accelerates its Members’ efforts in a world transitioning to a low carbon future. 

“Re-assessing the Association’s strategy every few years is nothing new. However, this time was different,” said Iman Hill, IOGP’s Executive Director. “The world and the energy landscape are changing faster and more significantly than ever before. The oil and gas industry is experiencing more robust challenges and stringent expectations from regulators, investors, and the general public to radically reduce our climate footprint and impact – from current operations, future projects and products. The industry must collectively improve its response, showing commitment and alignment on shared values and goals, with plans and activities that deliver tangible results”. 

The new strategy will focus on:

• Significantly accelerating IOGP’s Energy Transition work program 
• Further extending advocacy efforts 
• Helping Members to retain and attract the talent our industry needs as well as developing a framework for reshaping and reskilling the workforce needed for the decades to come.

“On the Energy Transition, we believe that the industry must be part of the change, driving it, leading it. And, as IOGP, we want to support our Members in doing so by designing high impact solutions that will make a significant difference in a number of areas to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions”, said Iman. 

The new strategy will accelerate decarbonization solutions and facilitate industry alignment on emissions. It identifies Carbon Capture & Storage, Electrification, Energy efficiency and Flares & vents as priority themes and opportunities for the industry. 

IOGP is developing a number of recommended practices that will help the industry to accelerate its emission reductions. Furthermore, IOGP will facilitate a Methane Guiding Principles program aiming to embed methane management best practices within the operations of oil and gas companies worldwide.

“We also have a new vision that by 2025 we have made substantial progress towards a diverse and inclusive workforce, confident in their capabilities and ambitions to tackle the world’s energy challenges” Iman added.

To deliver on the Low Carbon work program, IOGP has created a dedicated Energy Transition Directorate and appointed Concetto Fischetti, seconded from Eni, as IOGP’s Energy Transition Director with effect from 1 September 2021.

“I am thrilled to welcome Concetto to the team. He will help lift our low carbon work to the next level,” said Iman. Concetto added: “I am very excited to join IOGP and accelerate the Low Carbon work streams initiated earlier this year. I share the teams’ commitment to the task and the urgency to deliver on this challenge.”
