New guidance supports use of the Land Survey Data Model

Topographic and other features mapped during land surveys in oil and gas exploration and production are currently collected in a variety of file types and formats. This leads to difficulties in management of the survey data and in the external exchange and sharing of the data with partners, regulators, and other parties.

The IOGP Land Survey Data Model (LSDM) was established to define a standard GIS data model for land surveys, addressing the need for a common structure for storing, managing, and visualizing onshore survey data. It provides a consistent approach for spatial visualization, data sharing and integration, through predefined entities and attributes. The LSDM is intended to complement the existing IOGP Seabed Survey Data Model (SSDM).

IOGP Report 640 – Guidelines for delivery and use of the Land Survey Data Model includes guidance on the use of the LSDM template, GIS data delivery requirements, data delivery folder structure, governance, version management, and contractor feedback.

The guidance can be downloaded from the IOGP Publications Library.
