As ancient hieroglyphics and wall paintings show, Egypt has relied on oil as a fuel since pharaonic times. More recently, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) was founded to find and develop the nation’s oil and gas resources.

Since 1976, EGPC has been a leader in the nation’s exploration and production. Today, the company produces the equivalent of around 620,000 barrels of oil per day, helping to satisfy local demand for petroleum products. Other objectives include increasing oil production, enhancing reserves and making the most of export opportunities and revenues. Equally important is EGPC’s commitment to applying international standards in health, safety and the environment.

EGPC’s IOGP Member Representative is Gamal Fathy Mohamed, the CEO’s Assistant for HSE.

At the same time, the Company is exploring ways to tap into reserves and resources amounting to more than 600 million barrels.
