
Members’ Congress showcases Association achievements
IOGP held its Members’ Congress and 49th Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in London from October 30 to November 1. The three-day event was co-sponsored by Chevron and TotalEnergies, and featured a host of industry speakers and workshops highlighting the breadth of the IOGP work programme. Interactive sessions showcased the work of the Association’s environment, engineering, health and safety, and energy transition workstreams.
Kim McHugh, IOGP Chair, spoke of the crucial role IOGP Members play in helping the industry embrace IOGP recommendations. “We can play a vital role in bringing the industry together, particularly around fast-moving future developments, such as the energy transition, the workforce of the future, and industry diversity,” she said in her opening speech.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to meet so many of our Members from across the world and to discuss the progress we’ve made and the challenges we need to overcome,” said Graham Henley, IOGP CEO.
The keynote address by Adriaan Kamp, Director of Nyenrode Executive Energy Academy and founder of Energy For One World, focused on how the oil and gas industry might look in the future.
Fraser McKay, Head of Upstream Analysis at Wood Mackenzie, presented insights into the industry and its current and future challenges, followed by a strategy workshop where attendees shared their insights and feedback on ways to increase the value of IOGP to Members and the industry as a whole.
Justine Roure, Deputy Vice President, Strategy & Policy, OGCI, Dr. Valerie Marcel, Director and Co-founder, New Producers Group, and Francois-Regis Mouton, Regional Director, IOGP Europe, explored the key issues the oil and gas industry navigates and the evolution of its role in a fast-changing and multi-faceted global society, in a panel session moderated by Nareg Terzian, Head of Communications and Strategy, IOGP Europe.
This was followed by a presentation on how Industry-wide digital transformation is fundamental to the energy transition, can be a step change in safety, and will create a more efficient and reliable energy ecosystem, addressed by Milenija Stojkovic Helgesen, Life Cycle Information Advisor, Operation and Maintenance, Equinor – Vice Chair of IOGP’s Digital Transformation Committee.
Other event highlights included a presentation by IOGP Workforce Energy Project Director Evelyn MacLean on the IOGP publication Building an inclusive workforce in the oil and gas industry; fireside chats with Alexa Burr, Vice President, Standards & Segment Services, American Petroleum Institute, and Wafik Beydoun, Regional Director Americas, IOGP, on global oil and gas regulation; and with Fawaz “Fuzzy” Bitar, SVP HSE & Carbon, bp, and Chair of SPE’s HSES Executive Advisory Committee, Steve Norton, IOGP Safety Director, and Kirsty Walker, SLB Operations Performance Project Manager, HSE and IOGP Safety Committee, Chair, on safety.
François-Régis Mouton, Wafik Beydoun, and Harvey Johnstone shared highlights of IOGP activities in the Europe, Americas, and APAC regions.
The next Members Congress is scheduled for the week of 28th October 2024, with the location to be confirmed.
