
IOGP Board of Directors Appoints Vice Chairs
(London, 13 June 2025) – The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointments of its Vice Chairs, Amir Gerges, Chief Health, Safety & Environment Officer, ADNOC; and Cory Quarles, Vice President, Upstream Operations, ExxonMobil.
“Both Amir and Cory each bring with them a wealth of leadership experience from across the global energy sector and are well-positioned to support IOGP’s strategic priorities – from advancing safety and sustainability to shaping the industry’s role in the energy transition. Their appointment strengthens our ability to represent and deliver value to our global membership and industry,” said Graham Henley, CEO of IOGP.

Amir joined ADNOC Executive Leadership Committee as Group Chief Health, Safety & Environment Officer in 2024. In his current role he is responsible for leading the HSE Function and championing the journey towards world-class HSE across all ADNOC’s portfolio. Prior to joining ADNOC, Amir worked for Shell for 26 years, where he held a variety of significant technical and business leadership roles. His journey with Shell began in Egypt in 1998 as facilities engineer, after which he completed various assignments in the UK, Norway, Korea, Russia, USA, and The Netherlands. Prior to his current role with ADNOC, he served as Shell’s Vice President (VP) Group Safety, VP Permian, VP Safety, Environment and Asset Management for Integrated Gas, VP Strategy & Portfolio for Upstream Americas and Integration Lead for Shell’s acquisition of BG.
Amir holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, both from the American University in Cairo. He is recognized as a Fellow of the Energy Institute (FEI) and a Chartered Petroleum Engineer (CEng). His leadership and expertise have also been acknowledged through his roles as a board member of the Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA), the Permian Strategic Partnership, and as Chairman of the Permian Road Safety Coalition.
Cory is the Vice President of ExxonMobil’s Upstream Operations with responsibilities for a global portfolio of operated assets spanning across five continents. He started his career with ExxonMobil in 1998 and in subsequent years held various technical, supervisory, and executive positions in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Prior to his recent appointment, he led ExxonMobil’s rapidly growing Permian business with full accountability of the profit & loss across the integrated value chain.
Over the years, he has also held several Board leadership roles for select industry associations, including Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Alaska Oil & Gas Association; Vice Chairman for the Oil Companies Marine International Forum (OCIMF); and Vice Chairman for the Texas Oil & Gas Association’s Budget Committee. Mr. Quarles is a native of Houston, Texas and holds a Chemical Engineering degree from Texas A&M University.
