Major incidents in the oil and gas industry are rare, but when they do happen, they trigger major responses. Initially, these responses minimize further risks to people and the environment.

In the longer term, responses centre on incident prevention, based on what we have learned. That is what happened in 2010, following deep-water well incidents in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Australia.
