Safety guidelines win praise at Beijing Industry Day

Zifeng Chen, Manager of Aviation Safety Department, CITIC Offshore Helicopter Co. Ltd praised IOGP’s aviation management guidelines at the Association’s Chinese Industry Day in May.

Since implementing the guidelines 10 years ago, he said, the company has had no accidents.

Tianxu Duan, QHSE Director, CNOOC Uganda Ltd, also had positive words for IOGP’s guidance publications. His presentation outlined how its management guidelines – written with an international scope – had helped the company achieve safe operations in Africa.

The day also featured a presentation on China’s new environmental protection Act. Xiao Zhu, Professor of Law, Renmin University of China, shared his analysis on its intended effects on enterprise operations.

The event, held as part of IOGP’s AGM in Beijing, attracted some 70 attendees – including industry professionals, government officials, local members and service company representatives. CNOOC was the host company, with representatives from CNPC and Sinopec also attending.

There was a strong Management Committee involvement, with presentations from Craig May, Chevron; John Chaplin, ExxonMobil; Jack Hinton, Baker Hughes and Simon Durkin, Shell generating lively discussion from the floor.

Kirsty Walker, Schlumberger and Antoine Augutin, ENGIE presented on safety issues and Rob Cox of IPIECA reported on industry advancements in oil spill response capabilities since Macondo.
