IOGP celebrates at Real Madrid stadium

In March, IOGP’s Instrument & Automation Standards Subcommittee (IASSC) celebrated the publication of its latest recommended practice at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

Members planned the celebrations to coincide with their bi-annual meeting – kindly hosted by Repsol, at its new headquarters.

Report 443, High Integrity Protection Systems (HIPS) – Recommended Practice provides technical recommendations for those involved in their definition, design and implementation.

HIPS in general and especially high integrity pressure protection systems (HIPPS) in particular, are an increasingly common feature of oil and gas facilities worldwide. They can provide an alternative to conventional mechanical protective devices (e.g. relief valves) or reduce the load upon them. In some cases, they present the only practical option to facilitate field development and/or expansion.

Following the Committee meeting, Members celebrated the HIPS publication at the impressive Santiago Bernabéu stadium – and admired the successes of another great team, Real Madrid. A dinner, hosted by Repsol, rounded off the evening.

The Instrument & Automation Standards Subcommittee is unusual in that its membership includes permanently invited representatives of global suppliers under a Memorandum of Cooperation. They include companies such as ABB, Honeywell, Siemens and Yokogawa, adding significant value to the meetings.
The next IASSC meeting takes place on 4-5 November at IOGP offices in London.
