National industry associations tackle common challenges

The heads of ten European national oil industry associations (NOIAs) from nine countries travelled to OGP’s offices in London on 28th January.  Their aim:  to discuss the challenges facing the industry in Europe, with particular focus on gas.

“Coordinating NOIA engagement at a national level with OGP’s representation in Brussels creates an important lever for increasing our influence on the outcomes in Brussels for the benefit of Europe,” said Michael Engell-Jensen, Executive Director of OGP.

It was the first such meeting of European NOIAs since their landmark cooperation on the EU Offshore Safety Directive in 2013. The senior executives — from Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain and the UK — worked to identify and analyse topics on which the industry could stand stronger together, with special attention paid to gas on this occasion.

The participants agreed on the value of the meeting and want to continue to get together under OGP Auspices.  Meanwhile, the Association is investigating initiatives to maintain the dialogue and engagement between meetings.

“Getting so many NOIAs to attend was very encouraging with regard to the prospect for closer collaboration and mutual support. We now hope to further consolidate the network by coordinating on better solutions for the industry and society in Europe,” Michael concluded.
