Colin Grant recognised for ‘extraordinary contribution’ to Metocean Committee

Colin Grant, on the occasion of his retirement as Chair, was honoured by the Management Committee, and presented with a crystal oil-rig obelisk.

He was praised for his ‘extraordinary contribution’ to the Metocean Committee throughout his 4.5 years as Committee Chair and over 20 years as a committee member.

“Colin put immense efforts in keeping the Metocean Community linked in to other groups, both within and outside OGP,” said Brad Corson of ExxonMobil, former OGP Management Committee Chair. “By establishing this communication we successfully avoided duplication of efforts and we were able to develop better ideas.”

Colin worked on the OGP 348 HS&E Guideline update to include Arctic operations and was one of the key people involved in setting up SIMORC (System of Industry Metocean data for the Offshore and Research Communities). He expressed an open and innovating approach to many initiatives and was an inspiration to other committee members.

“Thanks to Colin’s energy and enthusiasm,” Brad concluded, “the Metocean JIPs and Committee meetings were and still are well attended and very active events.”

The sponsor of the Metocean Committee is Armando Hashimoto of Petrobras, who recently replaced Humberto Spinola on the position.
