Metocean

In memoriam: Chris Shaw

Highlights is sad to report that former Metocean Committee Chair Chris Shaw died on Monday, 12th October, in St. David’s hospice in North Wales. His family were at his side.

Chris fought a long and courageous battle with cancer but was interested in the metocean community until the very end.  He was one of the founding members of the Metocean Committee and was one of the IOGP’s longest serving chairs, having chaired the committee for some 15 years, before handing over to Colin Grant in September 2008.

Chris mentored many metocean scientists at Shell during his career and was very supportive of metocean scientists in other companies. He led the development of the first edition of the IOGP’s Guideline document for HSE in Metocean Surveys (Report 348, December 2003).  He was also the leader of the group who developed the first international metocean standard (ISO 19901-1) in 2005.

Sympathy messages can be addressed to Colin Grant colinkennethgrant@gmail.com, who will ensure that they are relayed to his family, or directly to his wife, Jackie Shaw jackie.shaw02@gmail.com.
