New report provides advice on high integrity protection systems (HIPS)

High integrity protection systems (HIPS) are becoming an increasingly common feature of oil and gas facilities worldwide.

HIPS can provide an alternative to conventional mechanical protective devices (e.g. relief valves) or reduce the load upon them. In some cases, HIPS present the only practical option to facilitate field development and/or expansion.

Now, to assist those involved in the definition, design, implementation or operation and maintenance of HIPS, IOGP has published Report 443, High Integrity Protection Systems – recommended practice.

It provides technical recommendations and commonly agreed guidance on the subject.
